The Grain Pit can comfortably accommodate over 20 children at a time. It encourages teamwork and communication skills by children who work together intuitively to assign themselves specific roles to sift, pour, tip and shovel the grain in a more efficient manner.

It appeals to children aged 4-11 years, but engages many 14 year olds as well. As with any interactive, The Grain Pit benefits from adult facilitation but this is by no means necessary.

Children explore the process themselves and quickly find their role within the system and immediately become involved in the activity-part of an ongoing and changing team.
